5 Ways for Keeping Work-Related Stress from Affecting Your Health
1. Exercise your stress away.
When you get home from work after a long day, your first thought may be to stress eat and go to your nearest fast food establishment and get your favorite fried dish OR to just lounge around the house and watch your favorite TV show. We get it, those are both very tempting options, but you’d be surprised how much exercising can actually help you de-stress. When those endorphins kick in, you can feel so happy and accomplished.
2. Write it all down.
Do you ever feel like you just need to call a friend and vent about how bad your day was at work? That feeling is very understandable, but you know what else can really help you deal with your feelings in a healthy way – journaling. Write how you are feeling down in a notepad and just getting your feelings out there. This can be so freeing.
3. Avoid getting “burnt out” by actually taking a real vacation.
It can be so easy to get swept up in your job that you forget to take care of you. Don’t forget to do this because taking care of you should actually come first. If you don’t take care of you, how are you supposed to be able to do your job? Vacation time is put in place for a reason, to recharge, use it and come back refreshed.
4. Know when to “draw the line” between your professional life and your personal life.
Everyone is different and has their own way of dealing with their work-related tasks. When you get home, take that time for yourself, stop looking at your work e-mails and spend some time with your family. Constantly looking at work e-mails or just working, in general, can actually have a negative effect on your body and could even make you less productive at work.
5. Find your method for relaxation and do that every night.
Relaxing after work is so important, while you may have other obligations you have to take care of after work, be sure to take some time for yourself every night. Even if you could just set aside 30 minutes for some yoga or to read a book – whatever you relaxation method may be, do that!
