Looking For A New OB at the Lake of the Ozarks?
Finding the best OB at the Lake of the Ozarks to suit your needs can be challenging. Our health clinics at the Lake of the Ozarks are here to give you a few factors to consider when searching for a new OB in this week’s blog. You will also find some key information on the OB or Obstetrics services we provide here at Central Ozarks Medical Center below.
Factors to Consider When Searching for a New OB
HOW LONG HAS THIS OB BEEN AN OB?
There are doctors with a high level of experience and there are doctors with little experience who may just be starting their careers. Then, there are doctors who are somewhere in the middle. This is important to know. This person is supposed to your guide throughout your entire pregnancy, so don’t be afraid to ask about it when searching for a new OB.
HOW OFTEN WILL THIS OB BE AVAILABLE TO YOU?
When you are pregnant, it is likely that you will have many questions along the way, especially if this is your first pregnancy. You may not always think to ask these questions during your appointments so ask if the doctor is available for phone calls and how often that may be.
HOW FLEXIBLE IS THE OB WITH APPOINTMENT SCHEDULING?
Ask about how long you have to book an appointment ahead of time and what their hours of operation are. Are they open on Saturdays ever or no weekends at all?
WILL THE OB TAKE YOUR INSURANCE?
Here at Central Ozarks Medical Center, we accept patients with and without insurance and offer a sliding fee scale based on income and family size.

Immune Boosting Recipes For 2021

YIELD: 4-6 SERVINGS
Carrot Ginger Immune-Boosting Soup
PREP TIME
10 minutes
COOK TIME
20 minutes
TOTAL TIME
30 minutes
Ingredients
1 Tbsp olive oil
1 small yellow onion, diced
1 lb carrots, diced into 1/2-inch rounds
1-inch knob ginger, finely diced
1/2 inch knob turmeric, peeled and finely chopped. Or 1 tsp turmeric powder.
1/2 tsp Kosher salt
4 cups low-sodium vegetable broth
1 cup full-fat coconut milk
Freshly ground pepper
Instructions
Instant Pot Instructions:
Turn on Instant Pot to sauté on high and set to 10 minutes. Add olive oil then onion and carrot and sauté until they soften, about 5-6 minutes. Then add ginger and turmeric and sauté until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes, stirring regularly. Turn off sauté function.
Add salt and broth. Then set Instant Pot to pressure cook on high for 10 minutes. Add cover and seal and let Instant Pot do it’s thing. When it finishes, release pressure by turning pressure valve – steam will release. Once steam is done releasing, remove lid.
Using an immersion blender, blend the soup until it’s a smooth consistency. If you don’t have an immersion blender, transfer soup in batches to a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. Stir in coconut milk and season with freshly ground pepper.
Leftovers can be kept in refrigerator for 3-5 days.
Stovetop Instructions:
Heat a large soup pot or dutch oven over medium-high heat Add olive oil, onion, and carrot and sauté for 5-7 minutes, until soft. Then add ginger and turmeric and sauté for another 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.
Add broth and salt. Bring to a boil and boil and then turn heat down and simmer for 20 minutes to let flavors meld and carrots get really soft. When done, follow step 3 in directions above to blend and add coconut milk/pepper.
Notes: You can find fresh turmeric near the ginger. But if you don’t have it, you can use dried. Be careful when handling fresh turmeric. It stains!
Leftovers: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3 days or freezer for up to 3 months.

Heart Health Tips
Did you know that February is National Heart Month? It is! On that note, our health clinics at the Lake of the Ozarks are here to give you a few heart health tips in this week’s blog. If you end up having any questions about heart health or feel that you need to schedule a health check-up, please give us a call today. You will find all of our phone numbers on our website at www.CentralOzarks.org. COMC – It’s not just about what we do, but how we do it that matters.
Heart Health Tips
EXERCISE, EXERCISE, EXERCISE.
Your body’s ease of mobility and range of motion often follows the “use it or lose it” rule. The less you move your body, the harder it will be for you to be active when you do decide to be. It’s important to give your body mild to moderate exercise at least a few days per week. It is also important to limit the amount of time you spend sitting down. If you must sit for long periods of time at work, get up and stretch your legs every 1-2 hours.
GET YOUR SLEEP.
Maintaining the proper level of sleep on a nightly basis is an important component of keeping your heart healthy. One study cited on WebMD found that young and middle-aged adults who got 7-8 hours of sleep per night had less calcium in their arteries than adults who slept 5 hours or less or 9 hours or more. Calcium buildup in the arteries can be an early sign of heart disease.
WATCH YOUR SALT INTAKE.
The American Heart Association recommends that you consume only 1,500 milligrams of sodium per day and that you do not exceed 2,400 milligrams. Unfortunately, the CDC states that Americans consume, on average, 3,400 milligrams of sodium per day. Prolonged high-sodium diets can result in high blood pressure, edema, weakened bones, and potentially stomach problems. Limiting your sodium intake is an important part of improving heart health.
DON’T DRINK YOUR CALORIES.
Being overweight is hard on the body. It makes your heart (and other systems) work harder, and this extra effort can eventually take a toll. Losing weight is rarely easy, but one helpful way to start is to quit drinking sugary beverages that cause you to consume more calories than you may realize. Start by limiting the amount of soda, sweetened tea, fruit juice, and sweetened coffee that you consume on a regular basis. Cutting back on your alcohol intake is important, too.
Did this blog come to your attention at the perfect time? Keep It Healthy This Winter!
Winter 2021 is here! By now, your kids have likely had at least one snow day. What did you all do that day? Did you go outside and enjoy the snow? We hope you got the chance to make some fun memories with your kids. That being said, our health clinics at the Lake of the Ozarks are here to give you a few tips to “keep it healthy” this winter, in this week’s blog. If you are needing to schedule a doctor’s appointment for one of your little ones, consider Central Ozarks Medical Center. It’s not just about what we do, but how we do it that matters.
DON’T FORGET TO REST!
Kids can get so excited that they forget to come inside and warm up, so remind them. You don’t want them to catch a cold.
SAFETY SHOULD BE A PRIORITY!
Ice skating can be a very popular activity to participate in during the winter, so don’t be afraid to let your kids join in. Here are some things you can do to help make for a safer ice skating experience for your children:
- Be sure their ice skates are tight enough to where they won’t rub on their ankles
- Consider having them wear a helmet
- Make sure they understand all of the rules of the ice skating rink
- Supervise your children while ice skating
YOUR CHILDREN SHOULD BE DRESSED WARMLY.
Dress your children in warm layers to where they won’t get cold right away when walking outside. They say to dress your children in 1 more layer then you would yourself, as an adult. Keep an eye on the wind chill too. Keep as much skin as possible covered to help prevent frostbite.
WATCH YOUR CHILDREN.
Prevent your kids from wandering out on to the road or from “rough housing” by keeping a close eye on them while playing in the snow. Suggest a fun activity for you all to do together, such as making a snowman or snow angels.
All of us here at Central Ozarks Medical Center hope you enjoy yourselves this winter and that you all stay healthy! Again, if you are looking for a new doctor at the Lake of the Ozarks, consider Central Ozarks Medical Center. No insurance? No problem. We have Assisters that can help you find the best options. Have You Gone In For Your Flu Shot Yet?
Flu season is here! Have you ever got your flu shot yet? If not, we encourage you to do so. You may feel intimidated but there’s nothing to be intimidated about. Our staff is friendly and kind and we are here to help. Our health clinics at the Lake of the Ozarks are here to give you a few reasons why you should get your flu shot in this week’s blog. Central Ozarks Medical Center – Where it’s not just about WHAT we do, but HOW we do it that matters.
Have You Gone In For Your Flu Shot Yet?
STOP THE SPREAD.
The flu can be highly contagious, unfortunately. This means if you contract the flu, you could be giving it to your children, your spouse or significant other, your friends, and possibly anyone you come into contact with.
PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN.
Children can get the flu too, it’s not just an adult illness. Ask your doctor what the best shot for your child’s particular age would be. According to the CDC, “Everyone 6 months of age and older should get an influenza (flu) vaccine every season with rare exception.”
THE FLU CAN BE DEADLY.
Flu-related deaths have already been reported this year. The flu is no laughing matter, while it’s not always fatal, the fact is that it can be. So, why not protect yourself from this potentially fatal illness by getting the best known defense against it, a flu shot?
THE FLU SHOT ONLY LASTS SO LONG.
Some people may think that one flu shot lasts forever, but it doesn’t. The best thing to do is to check with your doctor on the type of flu shot you’re getting and how often you should be getting it for it to be effective.
GET YOUR TOP PROTECTION.
According to the CDC, getting your flu shot is the best way to prevent yourself from getting the flu.
“An annual seasonal flu vaccine is the best way to help protect against flu. Vaccination has been shown to have many benefits including reducing the risk of flu illnesses, hospitalizations and even the risk of flu-related death in children.”
Give Yourself A Fighting Chance Against The Flu!
Our health clinics in Mid- Missouri all hope you found this blog enlightening and helpful if you were undecided about whether or not you should get a flu shot this year. If you have any questions about where to go to get your flu shot, please visit our website at www.CentralOzarks.org. All of our phone numbers and locations can be found there. 5 Health Habits to Encourage for Kiddos Over the Holiday Break
The holiday break is officially here and for many, that means school is out and the kids are now at home for several days. That also means our normal routines are out of whack. Our health clinics at the Lake of the Ozarks are here to offer some tips on ways you can encourage healthy habits, even during the holiday break. Check them out:
1) Stick with a Bedtime Routine
Sleep is important for healthy and happy kiddos. Ensure your child is getting enough sleep this time of year. It can be tempting to let all the bedtimes go out the window during a holiday break, but it’s best to keep your family on a routine so it’s not as rough readjusting when the break ends.
2) Offer Healthy Snacks
Candy and cookies and yummy food galore! The holiday season is filled with sugary treats. While those treats are fun to have in moderation, it’s important that you monitor the amount of sugary and fatty foods your kiddos are taking in this time of year. Have healthy snack options at the ready and within reach so your kids can easily make those better eating choices.
3) Promote Creative Play
We are in the era of screens for kiddos. That means phones, tvs, video games, and more are in the faces of our young ones. Try to encourage more creative play by limiting screen time and providing hands-on toys and activities for them to play with. If the day is nice enough, grab a coat and gloves and head outside for some outdoor playtime! Fresh air and sunshine are good for everyone!
4) Wash Hands Often
Kiddos touch a lot of surfaces throughout the day. Their hands are likely full of germs and grime at any given time. Ensure your little ones are washing their hands several times throughout the day. Washing before eating and after using the restroom is highly encouraged to reduce the spread of germs for a healthy holiday break!
5) Include Family Time in Your Routine
It can be easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. We know you as parents have a lot on your plate this time of year. It’s very important to squeeze in family time every day. Whether it’s watching a movie together, playing a board game, eating a meal around the table, or driving around to look at Christmas lights, there are easy and fun ways to encourage family time during the holiday break.
Now that you know how you can keep your crew happy and healthy over the holiday break, you’re ready to start with your healthy habits. Whether you already have healthy habits for your family or you’re using this time to get back on track, the holiday break is a fantastic time to work on those skills. The entire team at Central Ozarks Medical Center hopes you and yours have a happy and safe holiday season! Remember, we’re here for all of your health care needs in Central Missouri!
